About the Event
Snake Davis is a familiar face at The Gather. He has been tremendous support since he did our first gig back in March 2020.
He loves Ennerdale and the Western Lakes and all our regulars will be delighted to know that he now returns with Robin A. Smith, a multi-talented and classically trained musician who is set to coax new heights from Snakes playing.
Robin A. Smith has just completed “Tubular Bells” at The Royal Festival Hall in London. He collaborated with Mike Oldfield to transform his iconic 1973 debut Album, which later that year was used for the soundtrack of the horror movie “The Exorcist”, into a Theatrical performance. Mike Oldfield’s masterpiece like never before, live on stage with a full band and acrobatic interpretations by Circa Contemporary Circus. But this wasn’t the first such collaboration; their adaptation “Tubular Bells for Two” won awards at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 and subsequently played to sell-out audiences across Europe and the USA including The Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall NY.
Robin’s roots are in Jazz and as a classically trained musician at The Royal College of Music, and thus on to arranging, conducting and composing. His stellar career includes work with Stjepan Hauser: Andrea Bocelli: Luciano Pavarotti: Kanye West: The 2 Cellos: Enrique: Rod Stewart: Mike Oldfield and as Musical Director for the 2012 London Olympic Opening Ceremony.
Snake Davis and Robin Smith are old friends and have worked together many times before. This duo Upstairs@TheGather will bring an eclectic mix of music from Jazz to classical with classic Sax numbers, Robin on the piano and Snake on his usual array of instruments from soprano, alto, tenor and baritone Saxes, Shakuhachi, Flutes, to Whistles and Vocals.
